Trial codes
With a trial code, you can try the Plus or Business plan for a set period without registering a card. As the Billing tab puts it: “No card needed — when the trial ends you return to Free with no automatic charge.”
What a trial code gives you
Section titled “What a trial code gives you”- The plan set by the code (Plus or Business), for the period set by the code.
- No card needed, and no automatic charge when the trial ends.
- When the trial ends, the workspace returns to Free. The switch happens in a routine that runs once a day after the end date, so it can take up to about a day.
- One trial per workspace, ever, even with a different code.
- Trials can only start on a Free-plan workspace.
Codes look like MASHPRO-XXXXXXXX. Upper and lower case don’t matter.
Apply a code when you sign up
Section titled “Apply a code when you sign up”If you received a sign-up link like …/register?code=…, sign up from that link. Whether you sign up with email or with Google on the same page, the code is applied automatically to your new account’s default workspace. The sign-up form doesn’t display the code.
After you sign up, you see the result:
- Applied:
Your {plan} trial is active until {date}. It's ready as soon as you log in. - Not applied:
Your account was created, but the trial code wasn't applied: {reason}
If you signed up with Google, a notification after sign-in shows Your {plan} trial is active until {date}. or The trial code wasn't applied: {reason}.
Even if something is wrong with the code, your account is still created, and {reason} explains why (see Error messages).
Enter a code in the Billing tab
Section titled “Enter a code in the Billing tab”Owners and admins can apply a code to an existing Free workspace.
- Open your avatar at the bottom of the navigation rail (Account menu) → the gear on the workspace’s row (
{name} settings) → Workspace settings → Billing tab. - Below Compare plans, select Have a trial code?
- Enter the code in the Trial code field.
- Select Start trial. You’re done when you see
Your {plan} trial has started.
- The field only appears on Free workspaces with no active subscription. When no plan is on sale, the field is already expanded.
- For members, the field is disabled with the message
Only owners or admins can upgrade. - If the code can’t be applied, the reason appears under the field. You can fix it and try again.
What you see during a trial
Section titled “What you see during a trial”-
A Trial label appears next to the current plan.
-
This message is shown:
You’re trying {plan} until {date}. When the trial ends you switch to Free with no automatic charge. To keep going, subscribe to a plan below. Paying ends the trial right away and starts a new billing period.
-
On a Business trial, Manage subscription shows
{seats} trial seats. The number of trial seats is set by the code. -
The buttons under Compare plans read Subscribe now.
Keep using a plan after the trial
Section titled “Keep using a plan after the trial”Under Compare plans, select Subscribe now, then register a card and pay as described in Upgrade and add a card. Paying ends the trial right away, charges the full price of the plan you choose, and starts a new billing period. You can also subscribe to a different plan from the one you’re trying.
What you can’t do during a trial
Section titled “What you can’t do during a trial”- A trial can’t be cancelled or withdrawn. Trials have no Cancel subscription button; they end automatically on the end date.
- You can’t add seats. A Business trial keeps the seat count set by the code. If you need more seats, subscribe first.
When the trial ends
Section titled “When the trial ends”The workspace returns to Free without any charge. Everything works the same as when a cancelled subscription switches to Free; see After the switch to Free for what changes.
