About MashNote
MashNote is a note platform for researchers. You write research notes in a block-based editor and get help with research and writing from AI Assist in your notes and from the research agent. AI Cortex turns your activity and note changes into a daily wiki only you can see, and idea boards and the whiteboard are where you collect and work through ideas and evidence together. You can also log work you finish in AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude and Cursor as activity.
The screens at a glance
Section titled “The screens at a glance”You move between screens with the navigation rail on the left. From top to bottom, the rail shows:
| Screen | What it does |
|---|---|
| Start | Your account-wide home. Shows AI Cortex digests by workspace, a box to ask the agent right away, quick-start buttons, and recent notes. |
| My Mash | An account-level feed of all the activity you’ve logged. For each item, you choose the workspace it links to and its visibility. |
| Inbox | Notifications such as note shares, access changes, mentions and chat shares. |
| Notes | The main note editor. Manage folders and notes in the sidebar on the left. |
| Agent | Chat with the research agent. It searches paper databases and the web and answers with sources. |
| AI Cortex | Organizes your activity and note changes in the current workspace into a personal wiki every day. |
| Activity | A team feed that shows workspace members’ activity in time order. |
| Ideas | Collect cards on boards to organize ideas, references and projects. |
| Whiteboard | Draw together in real time with members of your workspace and get an AI report when the session ends. |
After you sign in, the Agent screen opens first. Which items are hidden for guests, the account menu and the Help & feedback button are covered in Navigation tour.
Workspaces
Section titled “Workspaces”Notes, agent chats, idea boards and team activity in MashNote are all managed per workspace. One account can join several workspaces, and each workspace has its own members and permissions. Start, My Mash and Inbox, on the other hand, are account-level screens that span all of your workspaces.
AI Cortex is also created per workspace, but only you can see its contents. For details, see Workspaces and members.
Plans apply per workspace, not to your personal account. There are three plans: Free, Plus and Business.
- Free gives you the core features, including notes, AI and the agent. AI usage has a monthly cap, and image storage has a size limit.
- Free offers Auto and selected models in agent chats. Plus offers every model except GPT-6 Astra; Business offers every model.
- Plus and Business are billed per seat and share AI credits based on purchased seats. For the same seat count, Business includes more credits.
- Every plan supports member invites; guest invites are available on Plus and Business. Free has no member headcount limit; on paid plans, members use seats when they join. Business can add the R&D Addon.
